Where an encoder fits
An encoder converts a video or audio signal into a format suitable for storage or transmission. It can be a dedicated device or software. It belongs to the production and delivery side of video, rather than the normal viewer sign-in process.
Encoder versus streaming box
A streaming box receives and plays content on your television. An encoder prepares content to be sent. Although both may look like small boxes, they do different jobs. Buying an encoder does not provide a subscription or rights to any programme.
Do you need one for Flexstreams?
For ordinary viewing, focus on a compatible TV, streaming device, phone or computer, the supported player and your subscription. Confirm your exact model with us before purchasing hardware. You should not need professional broadcast equipment simply to watch an available licensed stream.
Publishing is a separate activity
If you plan to produce or redistribute video, you need appropriate rights and a different technical setup. A viewing subscription does not authorise rebroadcasting. Contact us separately about a business enquiry rather than treating a consumer plan as a distribution licence.
